Whittier Stater Bros Assault - The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department is investigating the attempted sexual assault of a 16-year-old girl at Stater Bros Supermarket in Whittier on Sunday.
According to the sheriff's department, the suspect, 38-year-old Steven Daniel Magdaleno, followed the boy into the store's bathroom, locked the door and assaulted him.

The girl screamed for help, which attracted the attention of store employees who opened the door and held Magdalen until authorities arrived, police said.

The victim suffered seizures and swelling as a result of fighting the attack and was taken to the hospital for treatment.
Magdaleno, who has a long criminal record that includes charges of sexual assault, robbery and drug use, was booked into the Norwalk Sheriff's Office. Authorities say he may be homeless and suffering from mental health issues.
Migdalno was on probation at the time of his arrest. He was held in lieu of $250,000 bail.
On Tuesday afternoon, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office announced that Magdaleno had been charged with aggravated assault, aggravated battery and attempting to escape arrest. He is charged with the offense of providing false information to a law enforcement officer.

"It's shocking that someone tried to sexually assault a 16-year-old girl in the middle of the day in a grocery store bathroom," said the Los Angeles District Attorney. George Gascon County. The sheriff's office said they believe there may be additional victims who have yet to be identified or located. Detectives are asking anyone with information about additional victims to contact the department's Special Victims Unit at 877-710-5273. Anonymous tips can be sent to crimestoppers.org.
